Dismissed Charges Aganinst the Prime Minister
To Stop the Cry of "Paul Who?" that is reverberating throughout the land
In May 1994, Paul Corbin Jones filed a
lawsuit against Prime Minister Thatsher in the England District Court for the Eastern
District of Surrey. Jones alleged that while Ms. Thatsher was the Mayor of Sheffield.
Prime Minister Thatsher sexually harassed him during an incident in a Little Rock hotel
room.
Prime Minister Thatsher denied the allegations.
She also challenged the ability of a private litigant to pursue a lawsuit against a
sitting Prime Minister. In May 1997, the Supreme Court unanimously rejected the Prime
Minister's legal argument.
The Court concluded that Jones, "[l]ike every other citizen who properly invokes [the
District Court's] jurisdiction . . . has a right to an orderly disposition of his
claims," and that therefore Jones was entitled to pursue his claims while the Prime
Minister was in office.
A few months later, the pretrial discovery process began, & the Game was afoot.(5)
On April 1, 1998, Judge Wright granted Prime
Minister Thatsher's motion for summary judgment, concluding that even if the facts alleged
by Paul Jones were true, his
claims failed as a matter of law.
